ECPs and Reporting Stats

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE PROCESS FOR STATS RELATED TO ALL ECPS CREATED ON THE FORMER PLATFORM (pre-spring 2014).

I. Introduction
We recently added the ability to track ECPs in Google Analytics. This change allows you use your GA account to view data for any ECP linked to your metro but has increased the numbers you are normally used to seeing in your account. Since understanding your stats is essential, we wanted to make sure you are aware that your GA totals now include ECP traffic as well as how you can track only DoXXX site traffic for reporting and sales proposals.

We know you will often need access to DoXXX and ECP traffic separately, so we created what are called "Custom Advanced Segments" that will allow you to view DoXXX data without ECPs and vice versa. These are filters that tell GA to include or exclude a certain group of pages, allowing you view only DoXXX or only ECP traffic by simply applying the correct Custom Segment filter.

II. Adding Custom Advanced Segments to Your Metro's GA Profile
We have created the Custom Advanced Segments for each metro that you will use when pulling only DoXXX site traffic or only ECP traffic. The Customer Advanced Segments are the following:

"DoXXX - Only Site" -- This filter will allow you see only DoXXX data, by excluding all ECP data from the report. This filter uses "AND" statements and Excludes specific URLs.

"DoXXX - Only ECP" -- This filter will allow you to see only ECP data, by including only pages with ECP URLs. This filter uses "OR" statements and Includes specific URLs.

III. Using Custom Advanced Segments
Once the segments have been added to your GA Profile, you will be able to turn them on/off, as well as share them with others or edit them to keep them up to date. Click the image below for a full sized screenshot showing the basics of using Advanced Segments.

IV. Using Custom Segments in Weekly Audience Update
This change to GA will impact the way we pull data for the Weekly Audience Update. You will need to apply the "DoXXX - Only Site" Custom Segment before generating Audience, Traffic Source and Landing Page data. The following screenshots have been updated on the Weekly Audience Update form:

V. Keeping the Custom Segments Updated
If you recently launched an ECP and the URL includes "doxxx.com", you will not need to update your current custom segments.

However, if you recently launched an ECP and the URL doesn't include "doxxx.com", you will need to update the custom segments.

The screenshots below will guide you through the steps to take when adding new ECPs to the custom segments:

Editing "DoXXX - Only Site"
Step 1: Click "Edit" on the correct Custom Segment
Step 2: Click Add "AND" Statement (new field will pop up)
Step 3: Select "Exclude" and "Page" from the dropdown menus
Step 4: Enter the new ECP's URL (ex: calendar.newECPdomain.com)
Step 5: Once all new ECPs have been added, click "Save Segment"
Step 6: Then click "Share" and GA will provide you a link for sharing the Custom Segment.
*Note: Whenever a change is made to your custom segment, the change doesn't automatically appear on everyone else's copy of the custom segment. To ensure that everyone's versions stay up to date with yours, please send updated segment links to support@dostuffmedia.com and anyone on your team who uses Google Analytics.
